F06 LCi M6 Gran Coupe Competition Pack – 1/206 in RHD
The M6 Gran Coupe is without doubt one of the most elegant modern M cars, with a sleek 4-door design that looks great from every angle. But those elegant looks hide the heart of a mile-eating monster with supercar performance to complement the luxury spec. The total production run of just under 1200 RHD units also makes the M6 in general one of the rarest around, and in LCi + Competition Pack guise, it’s even rarer – just 206 RHD cars in total. The LCI/facelift for this model in 2015 made some cool changes, most notably the headlights, which are arguably the best BMW M have produced so far, and the colour combo of —— black with contrasting lotus leather is striking, giving the M6 GC an expensive but menacing look.
Without doubt, the CP edition is the one to have, and the LCi is the daddy. The 4.4 litre, twin turbo V8 S63 motor produces supercar levels of power – 600bhp (up from 575 due to revised boost mapping) and 516lb/ft of torque – mated to a 7-speed dual clutch manual gearbox (with auto-mode obviously). The CP cars are visually similar to the standard model, with only those black-tipped tail pipes giving the game away to ‘those who know’. But under the skin there are plenty of tweaks for the enthusiast – uprated suspension including springs, damping, bushes and antiroll bars. The steering got a quicker rack and revised Servotronic software, and the diff and DSC both got tuning upgrades.
But the M6 Gran Coupe also has arguably one of the best interior layouts, with a bright cabin and beautifully designed ergonomic driver interface. Basically, it is a lovely place to sit, and the last of the M cars that references the old BMW policy of an uncluttered cabin to reduce driver stress and distraction. The now familiar engine, steering, suspension and gearbox selections are there, with plenty of adjustments/combinations for a custom set up, but the layout is simple and easy to use, making it perhaps the last M car you can just get in and drive, without reading the instruction manual or taking half an hour to set the car up before you drive off.
Enthusiasts of big, powerful M cars will note that despite the refined looks and elegant interior, the exhaust note leaves you in no doubt what you’re dealing with – for other road users it may come as something of a shock to see such a classy looking car move so fast.
This M6 GC is a very special car, having been part of the Munich Legends collection. The spec is impressive – from extended leather and alcantara headlining, to the £6000 B+O surround sound system (which is superb), active headlights, HUD, soft close and literally loads more (please ask for full spec). This car has spent most of its mileage sprinting up and down the motorways of Europe, barely breaking a sweat, and has been kept in tip-top condition.
