Early round-light 2002tii – first UK car
A lovely, solid example of the classic 2002 tii, with its legendary Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection and, importantly, round rear light clusters. This particular ’02 is one of the first to roll off the production line – car #3 in fact – and said to be the earliest tii to arrive in the UK. Where many 2002s are tired and worn out, this little number is positively fizzing with energy, and presents really well. Ready to drive away, as well as being an excellent ongoing ownership project ( there are a few items that could be improved over time) this excellent tii represents very good value for money as one of the first truly exciting sports-orientated cars made by BMW. This is a matching numbers car.
Driving a 2002tii is quite a treat, and whilst the horsepower figures seem somewhat low compared to later classic BMWs such as the E30 M3, experiencing one on the road is quite a different matter. They’re surprisingly fast – and one realizes quickly why this cracking machine was such a revelation back in the day. With its sporty set up, including spoked classic alloys and uprated suspension, this tii will definitely put a smile on your face. With surprisingly good road manners (partly due to the Bilsteins and tighter springs) and predictable cornering ability, this particular 2002 tii stands out as being, quite simply, a very entertaining drive.
The car has undergone various progressive refurbishments and preventative maintenance exercises, meaning that instead of deteriorating over time, as unfortunately many ‘02s have, this car has stood up incredibly well against the ravages of ageing. There’s plenty of paperwork to show the various stages of work, as well as the original manual and a MOMO steering wheel, should the new owner wish to reflect the car’s sporty set up inside the cabin. Our technical team have carried out a full inspection and declare this 2002tii to be one of the best they have seen for ages.
