BMW 2002 tii – historic race car, road legal

An incredibly well prepared historic 2002 tii in fabulous condition, with lovely provenance. History and spec as follows,

Chassis 2780927 US specification, left hand drive, Fjord blue metallic code 037. Restored to Blue and White as period competition. Now UK registered.

Believed to be the first 2002tii delivered to BMW US importer/concessionaire and all-round historical figure (for US BMW fans) Max Hoffman on 14/01/1974.

Sold to a customer in Watsonville California, believed to be Douglas Folson who kept the car for 30 years before exporting it to the Netherlands on 16/08/2004.

In 2008 the car was acquired by oceanographer Margriet Tilstra who has published her car biography and details of the comprehensive 3 year €37,000 restoration of this car, VIN 2780927 at www.scubadaisy.nl

In April 2012 the first rally was completed successfully and the car continued to compete in Northern European historic events between 2012 and 2016 after which it was used for closed circuit events.

In November 2019 it passed to rally driver Robert Kavanagh in England and was used in the 2020 Neige et Glace historic rally in the mountains of eastern France.

We first saw this car when it was purchased by a very special customer of ours, who asked us to check the car over and bring it up to excellent condition. Not much was needed to get there, and John put the car straight into storage, before deciding that, post retirement, he should start to thin down his collection. The 2002 was subsequently bought by another very well respected Munich Legends customer, who has owned the car only briefly before deciding the LHD aspect would make it difficult for his hill climb hobby.

This really is a fantastic opportunity to own one of the few 2002tii examples out there in such excellent condition, with a wonderful back story, history and provenance.
