Munich Legends are immensely proud, privileged and excited to announce the arrival of one of the rarest and most sought-after BMW M cars in the world – a low mileage, right hand drive E28 M5. With absolutely immaculate factory original (and incredibly rare) Henna red coachwork and full M tech aero kit, unblemished natur Lotus extended leather interior and showing a mere 45000 miles (71255kms) this beautiful M5 is truly an exceptional car. It is worth noting that most E28 M5s are in darker, more sombre colour combinations. Bright and glowing in Henna red, this wonderful car certainly stands out as a special car.
Powered by the M88 3.5 straight six engine adapted directly from their M1 supercar, the E28 was the very first M5 produced. There were a total of only 283 E28 M5s made in RHD by BMW between March 1986 and November 1988. As one of the 96 E28 M5s made at the BMW Rosslyn facility in South Africa (No 5) this RHD car is certainly special. Manufactured in September 1987 it was delivered on the 29th October 1987 to Mr H Back, a wealthy collector, by SA BMW dealers Stuart Bromfield Motors in Jo’burg, where it returned six weeks later at 1776kms for its running in service. Having spent the nine years of its life in SA, the car emigrated with Mr Back to Australia in 1996. The car then spent its time travelling between concours competitions and shows around Australia (where M5s had not been available new and are therefore a rare treat) and was bought by the next owner in 2002 with only 22500 miles on the odometer.
M5 ‘number 5’ has featured throughout its life in many magazines in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and is known worldwide as one of the best M5s still in existence. We imported this Legend in 2013 and immediately found a home with a keen collector, to go with his M1 and various other exotica.M5 ‘number 5’ has been thoroughly inspected by our technical team and is in amazing mechanical and cosmetic condition. Coming from a dry part of the world, there is absolutely zero corrosion. Having carefully examined the paintwork and measured the paint depths with a paint gauge, ‘number 5’ can be verified as being on original factory paint – as confirmed by the previous owners – and has never had any additional paint applied, showing a consistent reading of between 80 – 140 microns across the car (factory depths vary slightly from panel to panel, and even within each panel). Unbelievably there are almost no stone chips; there isn’t a single defect in the paintwork. The interior is also factory original. There are no modifications of any sort. M5 ‘number 5’ is ‘out of the box’ fresh.
The number of right hand drive E28 M5s with this pedigree and in this condition worldwide may not exceed a dozen. For those looking for the ultimate collectable E28 M5, rest assured, it doesn’t get better than this.
