E30 M3 Very rare, period-converted RHD

The E30 M3 needs little or no introduction. The car that truly put BMW on the racing map, cleaning up in every racing series it entered, leaving an indelible impression on a whole generation of motoring enthusiasts around the world. A poster car for many during the 80s, the nineties and early noughties saw many collectors distracted, and values for standard cars sunk to a low, with many M3s being modified or tracked, neglected or, worse, ended up in the trees. Only now is it clear just what a beautifully simple and effective machine this is, and true driving enthusiast will immediately appreciate the agility, responsiveness and ease of use that the E30 M3 has in spades. Its not as fast as many modern sports cars – it’s no slouch either – but that’s not really the point. It will out handle almost anything, and we’ll guarantee the E30 M3 driver will always have the widest grin. Over the years, the M3 may have morphed into a fire-breathing monster with more than twice the original M3’s bhp, but nothing has come close to matching the soul of the E30. And just look at it!

For many in the late 80s, the big issue was ‘LHD only’. Many new car buyers back in the day were not impressed by the lack of a RHD version, but the UK market was nothing then compared to what it represents for BMW M now – largely due to the legacy of a few key cars, of which the E30 M3 will be the #1. So, most UK dealers had an unofficially, official arrangement with a handful of specialists (Munich Legends didn’t exist until 1993, and BMW couldn’t do it in-house) to convert E30 M3s to RHD – chief amongst which were the first incarnation of Birds UK. We’ve seen a few example of Birds’ work with these cars, and you wouldn’t know that these were not RHD from the factory. Using original BMW parts, and at great cost, BMW offered those that simply could not abide LHD a brilliant solution.

This particular example of an E30 M3 is very special. Owned by the same family since new, this car is a mouthwateringly original time warp car – from the dealer stickers and tax disc holder, the brilliant (and hugely expensive at the time) 80s high-end stereo – and even, in a first for us, an unopened, dealer badged, period tin of boiled sweets.

We’re so pleased to have this rare and lovely car for sale. Our technical team have drawn up a list of works that can be completed prior to the new owner taking possession, making this exceptional car a fabulous collectors item and a brilliant addition to any collection for years to come.
