BMW E36 M3 track conversion project – road legal
The E36 M3 has always been a hugely popular base machine for those wishing to enjoy high performance, ease of conversion and budget fun on track days. The last of the truly analogue M cars (cable throttle for example) may have seemed a little underwhelming as a road car, once the E46 had rained on its parade, but they are immensely communicative cars, sending all that track feedback straight to the brain, and as a track conversion, they are light, quick, and reliable, taking pretty well whatever you throw at it.
This excellent machine is a bit scruffy, and whilst it could be called an ongoing ‘project’, it is ready and waiting for its next track day. The following track mods are on the car;
AP 4 pot front brakes
GAS adjustable coilovers ( height and damping adjustable, separate rear shocks)
Braided brake hoses
Front under body chassis brace
Braided clutch hose
Short shift lever and selector rod
Poly trailing arm bushes
Super sprint back box
Bonnet, front bumper, doors and boot lid all in fibre glass
Front strut brace (OMP)
A/C / additional air pump delete
Intake induction kit
Plumbed in fire extinguisher
Viscous fan delete Corbeau sprint seats, + harness (TRS)
Half cage (safety devices)
Rear seat delete
Battery relocated to rear footwell
Battery cut off
Quick release OMP steering wheel
Carbon rear wing (Geoff steel racing)
Team dynamics wheels
External fuel pump and swirl chamber mounted in boot
Uprated rear shock top mounts
