The V8 (or E9X) model M3 had a tough act to follow, coming directly after the glorious E46. But right from the first drive, it was obvious that BMW had done it again – only arguably better. The F1 derived S65 V8 engine (a close relative or derivative of the V10 S85) was deservedly award winning, but it is also an utter joy to drive. Revving all the way round past 8000rpm, the howl just gets louder and more blood-curdling, but keeps producing results all the way to the red line, making the M3 one of the most exciting cars to drive of its time. The chassis is sublime, the steering – one of the last hydraulic servotronic systems – is brilliant, and the all-round driving experience is utterly unforgettable. The E92 M3 is also reliable, cost effective to run – especially given its performance – and at home on the motorway or racetrack – and anywhere in between. The V8 M3 is without doubt one of our favourite M cars, and most owners would agree.
This particular V8 M3 is arguably the most desirable configuration – a dual clutch manual (DCT) competition pack. The semi-automatic tag is misleading, because although there is no clutch pedal, the ‘box is very much a manual – but one that makes gear changes in a split second, using the paddles or sequential stick. In stunning Melbourne red with black leather, this M3 has covered very few miles in the hands of its first owner, who parted company with his beloved V8 late last year due to a house move (no parking available). The car is back up for sale having made a brief journey up North (one month). The condition is very much as you’d expect from such a low miles car – our technical team have carried out a full inspection and only recently prepared the car for delivery, since which it has travelled fewer than 1000 miles. We would describe the condition as ‘would fit perfectly in the best collection’. Praise indeed.
