The M235iR is a pretty unusual machine. Developed by BMW in conjunction with it major partners – such as ZF, the gold-standard gearbox manufacturer – this is basically a BMW Works development, designed specifically for the serious amateur racer. LHD only, and definitely not road legal, this rare machine is perfect for those who prefer to jump in and drive, rather than go through the sometimes hit-and-miss trouble of custom building a race car from scratch, matching and marrying together all the individual performance components.
With the M235iR, you’re ready to race straight out of the box. All the components have been selected and tested by BMW – using as many stock elements as possible. Whilst some may be surprised at the automatic gearbox, for example, most will be reassured by ZF’s assurances to BMW that their auto box is more than adequately robust to deliver consistent levels of performance under hi-stress, race conditions, delivering the fastest possible shifts reliably, every time. The brakes, BMW stress, are more than capable of matching the equivalent stopping power, without fade, as engine braking-assisted cars would.
The M235iR is in fact one of the most intriguing projects to be released by BMW. The accompanying documentation provided with the car makes fascinating reading, and shows just how seriously BMW took the production of this car.
