BMW F82 M4 DCT – immaculate, low miles
In 2014 BMW’s M department made the decision to shake things up. For the first time, the iconic M3 badge was split between two models – the saloon would continue as the M3, and the coupe would henceforth carry the new M4 badge. This coincided with the jump away from naturally aspirated engines, to forced induction.
While these two moves may have initially upset the purists, there was plenty of good news to keep them happy. The new 3.0L straight six twin turbo M4 was lighter (by a huge 80 kg, nearly the same weight loss as the earlier M3 CSL compared to the standard E46 M3), more powerful – bhp up to 425 from 414 – but most importantly, torque was increased to a whopping 550Nm from 400Nm on the E92 M3, giving the M4 a feeling of massively increased grunt. The M4 was tuned to offer maximum bhp over a much wider spread of revs, as opposed to simply a the moment of peak delivery, bringing the M4 right to the forefront of its class, performance-wise. Although the M version of the 4 series shared some of the overall design elements, the M4 only shared 50% of its components with the standard car. BMW M were back, and they meant business. And, the M4 turned out to be a big success – largely due to impressive performance – accelerating from 0-60mph in under 4 seconds, its sleek looks and its all-round drivability.
This particular M4 is a real gem. Finished in immaculate Sakhir Orange, with unmarked black merino leather interior, the car has a great spec, including all the essentials for comfort and modern driving; heated steering wheel (if you didn’t know you needed this, just try it!), DAB, head-up display, Harmon Kardon stereo, adaptive lights with high beam assist, and reversing camera. The DCT dual clutch gearbox is a masterpiece, giving you a manual ‘box – with engine braking – but with a millisecond precise gear-change and rev-matching on the downshift.
Having covered a modest 8000 miles with its 3 keepers, this M4 has been very well cared for, a fact that shows in our inspection report – which has nothing on it but a new set of tyres all round, to be fitted for the new owner (included in the price).
