Fast, unusual, sexy and cool. The BMW M roadster – known to many as the Z3 M roadster – is a rare and sought-after machine from the very middle of BMW’s purple patch. Derived directly from the superb coupe version of the same car, this little drop top Z is an absolute hoot to drive, and a lovely thing to behold. But not only is the M coupe a great drive, it’s also a lovely place to be, with its numerous chrome surrounded gauges and sculpted dash, sports seats and great driving position – an interior more akin to classic Italian styling than German.
Powered by the classic S50 3.2 straight six from the M3 of the same era, the Z boasts 321bhp, and all of it is usable. The S50 is also reliable and cost effective to run, making this classic M convertible a pleasure to own on all counts.
This particular Z Roadster is very well known to us – we first imported the car nearly 10 years ago as a one owner, 6000 mile car from Jersey and we’ve known it ever since. It always was in amazing condition, and subsequent owners have clearly not let the side down.
In the classic and most popular colour combination – Estoril Blue with black leather – and in truly magnificent condition, this has to be one of, if not the very best M roadster in existence.
